A Tale…

… of 13 Days, 2 Kilometers, 1 Tiny Village, 15-20 Dead Soldiers and… two idiots…

13 days since the start of the Israeli war against Lebanon and the Lebanese people, Israel proudly announces (after 3 premature and false/misleading announcements), with confirmation from HezbAllah, that it has captured a tiny village called Maroun al-Ras (not Meron A-Ras as the Israelis refer to it) just 1.5-2 km inside Lebanese territory… Israel has lost some 15-20 soldiers from its “elite” Golani brigade in the taking of the village (which comprises 10-15 houses), with more than two dozen injuries, including the amputation of the arm of the unit commander. At least 10 Israeli tanks have been partially or completely destroyed. Add to that the loss of three helicopters – 2 in a collision, and a third in an alleged accident, which is now being “investigated” – and the death of 3 pilots. Meanwhile, Israel continues to shell UNIFIL positions – the latest round injured 4 UN observers. The latest round of Israeli aggression against the Lebanese people focused on: 1) motorcycles (2 directly targeted by IAF, killing 2 of the riders, injuring a third); 2) Civilian cars fleeing south Lebanon (lest it prove that HezbAllah is not holding them hostage); 3) Residential buildings in Tyre, allegedly the site of the launching of rockets at Haifa (10 minutes later rockets fell in Haifa); 4) Mosques in south Lebanon and Beirut; 5) Gas stations in the southern suburbs of Beirut (10 successive missiles in the past hour); 6) Food storage facility (did you hear how generous and humane Olmert is? He allowed humanitarian aid to enter Lebanon); 7) Factories. Meanwhile the Israelis are attempting to advance another 100 metres into Lebanese territory past the “large town” (Israeli phrase for tiny village) of Maroun al-Ras. I wonder, has the figure of HezbAllah capabilities destroyed been increased to 50% again?

In the meantime, the Olmert-Peretz axis of evil continues to kill children in Gaza (we almost forgot…), spread rumours that Syria is putting its military on high alert (I wonder, is this to serve as a justification for the enlargement of Israel’s war? After all, the “civilized and free” world will always consider Israel’s neighbours’ actions “acts of aggression”, even if they are acts of defense due to very real perceptions of threat triggered by Israeli aggression), and act like a 5-year-old kid.

Update @ 12:52 am: It’s confirmed. 4 U.N observers were killed in an air strike that directly targeted a UN compound near Khiam, where Israel is busy eliminating the ghosts of its past (today 4 fresh airstrikes targeted what was left of the notorious Khiam torture center, which was first bombarded 5 days ago).

  12. How do you think about the war and the fact that just one day before the Israeli air strikes, the main partners and shareholders of the BTC pipeline project, including several heads of State and oil company executives were in attendance at the port of Ceyhan. They were then rushed off for an inauguration reception in Istanbul, hosted  by Turkey’s President Ahmet Necdet Sezer in the plush surroundings of the Çýraðan Palace.

Also in attendance was British Petroleum’s (BP) CEO, Lord Browne together with senior government officials from Britain, the US and Israel. BP leads the BTC pipeline consortium. Other major Western shareholders include Chevron, Conoco-Phillips, France’s Total and Italy’s ENI. (see Annex)

Israel’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Binyamin Ben-Eliezer was present at the venue together with a delegation of top Israeli oil officials.
